What is Reiki

The Japanese word “Reiki” means “universal life-energy.” It is the primal power that originally resides in all living beings.
Reiki also refers to the method of treatment in which this energy is passed on through the hands of the Reiki practitioner, so by laying on of hands. The person who is laying their hands on the client does not cure him or her, but is only available as a hatch for the energies. The universal energy flows to the place where it is needed, starting a natural process of healing. Reiki works on your body, but also on your emotions and the way you live your life emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Reiki is relaxing, it puts you at ease and it allows you to connect with your own strength and awareness. As the energy does its work on the physical and mental level, Reiki is a means of help for many people’s personal growth.

I practice Usui Shiki Ryoho (the Usui System of Natural Healing), the traditional form of Reiki. Usui Shiki Ryoho is taught by masters who have been trained in the traditions of Reiki and who are personally and professionally dedicated to Reiki.
Because I value the quality and purity of the system highly, I am a member of both The Reiki Alliance, the international community of Reiki masters, and the NVRM, the Dutch professional Reiki association. Both of these have codes of professional behaviour and complaints committees. On their websites you can find much more background information about Reiki.
